Воспитанник сухумского футбола. Выступал за команды «Крылья Советов» Москва (1946—1948), «Спартак» Москва (1949—1959). В чемпионатах СССР — 285 матчей, 145 голов. Чемпион СССР 1952, 1953, 1956, 1958 гг. Обладатель Кубка СССР 1950, 1958 гг. Лучший бомбардир чемпионатов СССР 1949, 1950, 1953 гг. За сборную СССР провел 20 матчей, забил 10 голов.
